Star Wars Movie Marathon at Limestone Township Library District

Star Wars Movie Marathon

at Limestone Township Library District

Have you ever wanted to be transported to a time long ago, in a galaxy far, far away?

On Saturday, May 4th you can take part in a Star Wars Movie Marathon at the Limestone Township Library District, celebrating May the Fourth. Starting at 10:00 A.M., we will screen the movie that was released to the public in 1977. It was called Star Wars then and later re-named Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope in 1981. It is this movie that first introduced movie goers to Luke, Leia, Hans, and Chewy.

It is this movie in which James Earl Jones first voiced Darth Vader, one of the best known villains of all time.

Once Episode IV is complete, we will show Episode V and Episode VI until the library closes at 3:00 P.M. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Visitors will be able to pick up a Chewbacca Take-and-Make project as well.

May the Force be with you.

For more information, call the Library at 815-939-1696.

Check out our program calendar.

Storytime takes place every Wednesday at 10:15 A.M., through May 8. Mr. William will read a picture book or two and leading us through a fun craft matching the theme of the book.

Cards for Kids Non-Resident Library Cards

Cards for Kids Non-Resident Library Cards Available at Limestone Township Library District

Perhaps you haven’t heard the news with day-to-day life being so busy. But children aged 5-17 who live outside of Limestone Township and within the Herscher School District (C.U.S.D.#2) may qualify for a free Cards for Kids non-resident card from the Limestone Township Library District (LTLD).  Cards for Kids Non-Resident library cards offer the same privileges, services, and resources as those for Limestone Township residents. This will allow students the ability to check out materials for school work and entertainment purposes who would not otherwise have that opportunity.

These free cards are for the child’s use only. Parents who want library privileges would need to purchase a Non-Resident Card at the fiscal year 2023-2024 cost of $142 per year for their library use. This fee can be split into two payments of $71. The non-resident fee reflects the average amount of annual taxes paid towards the library by residents of Limestone Township.

To sign-up for the Cards for Kids program, parents/guardians need to bring in a photo I.D. (driver’s license, state identification, or passport) and proof of residency (voter’s registration card, utility bill or real estate tax bill.) The student will need to bring their school ID or other proof of school attendance.

We encourage households with more than one child to register for their cards together on the same day, so each account will have the same start date and expiration date.

If you need more information, call us at 815-939-1696.

Prepare for the Eclipse at Limestone Township Library District

Prepare for the Eclipse

at Limestone Township Library District

Knowing that Kankakee County is going to see a partial eclipse of the sun on Monday, April 8 is very exciting. In Southern Illinois it will be possible to see the total eclipse. This is not something that happens all the time. In fact, there will not be another total eclipse of the sun over the United States until 2045.

During an eclipse, it is important to practice safety measures. Looking directly at the sun can damage your eyes, even during the total eclipse phase. Staring at the sun through a camera lens, telescope, or binoculars will not protect your eyes either. Even using only sunglasses is not enough.

What you want to use are the special eclipse glasses that were used during the last partial eclipse. You want to hold the sides of the glasses against your head as much as possible to protect your eyes. It is also possible to watch the eclipse through a reflective device such as a pin hole in a box or through a colander so you see the shadow of the eclipse on the ground. NASA also suggests wearing sun screen as the watchers will be in direct sunlight for several hours.

On Saturday, April 6, the library is hosting a drop-in family crafting session to create special viewing boxes. Supplies and instructions are available at the Front Desk. It’s also possible to pick up the special eclipse glasses at the library
