Limestone Township Library District is Finding Adventure This Summer

We are having a great time during this year’s Summer Reading Program at Limestone Township Library!

So far we have over 270 community members signing up to read for the summer. And they have read over 50,000 minutes by the second week. Our goal is to read 120,000 minutes during the five weeks of summer reading and we are going to get there.

We are filling our weeks with plenty of activities. There is never a moment that you cannot find something of interest.

Reg Green is our Storytime Community Helper, reading books on dogs who have been rescued, on Wednesday, June 26 at 10:15 A.M. Craft time will follow. This program is for preschoolers and kindergartners and their family members.

 Teens are invited to attend a Faerie Garden work shop on Thursday, June 27 at 6:30 P.M. Using a shallow pan or your own broken Terracotta pot, some succulents, and a few decorative pieces, we will create individual faerie gardens. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

 
Drop in for a time of sipping coffee and visiting with others when we host Coffee and Friends on Friday, June 28 from 10:00 A.M. till 12:00 Noon. You can read a paper, work on a jigsaw puzzle, or just talk with a friend while enjoying some coffee and a sweet roll. Please register so we can make sure to have enough for everyone.

Friday Take and Make kits features a Thaumatropes Kit on Friday, June 28. This STEM craft makes a moving picture with the help of a straw and a disc with a picture on each side. Pick one up for your child with the necessary parts and take it home to make at a time good for you. Supplies are limited.

Adults and teens can join us on Monday, July 1 at 6:30 P.M. for Sour Dough Starters and Creations with Elaine. Elaine Whitesell will demonstrate how to make a Sour Dough starter and shows us some of the wonderful things she has made with her starters. 

Kids in 2nd through 8th grades looking for a more challenging craft? Join us on Tuesday, July 2 at 6:30 P.M. when we are having STEM Project: Faux Stained Glass workshop. We are creating beautiful stain glass using a framed glass, glue, and paints. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

Come build a castle using our Legos during our Open Lego Build on Wednesday, July 3 between 12:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. We will have the Legos out so that anyone can drop in to try to build a castle or a tall tower or anything your imagination can dream up. No registration necessary, open to all ages.

Please be aware that the library will be closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day. We will re-open on Friday, July 5 at 10:00 A.M.

Friday Take and Make kits features a Patriotic Playdough Kit on Friday, July 5. Pick one up for your child with the necessary parts and take it home to make at a time good for you. Supplies are limited.

Do you like succulent gardens but cannot keep them alive? Kids who are 11- 18 years old can join us for a Rock Cactus Planter craft in which we will paint rocks to look like cactus and arrange them in a pot. Finally, a plant you will never have to water. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

Join us for the Saturday movie on July 6 at 11:00 A.M. when we join the adventure of National Treasure starring Nicholas Cage. Before the movie starts we will make our own treasure maps and have pizza to snack on. Open to all ages. Make sure to register ahead of time.

Summer Reading at Limestone Township Library District just won’t quit!

We are filling our weeks with plenty of activities. There is never a moment that you cannot find something of interest.

On Friday, June 21, our Friday Take and Make kits features a Dragon Fire Kit. Pick one up for your child with the necessary parts and take it home to make at a time good for you. Supplies are limited.

Taste test the different ways you can make coffee on Friday, June 21 at 1:30 P.M. Whether it is cold-brew, with a French press, or a regular coffee-maker, teens and Adults can discover which type of coffee they like best. Space is limited, register right away. 

Saturday, June 22 will see a Medieval Faire come to the Library Grounds. There will be games, crafts, food, and fun all around. There will even be an alchemist making Elephant Toothpaste and pool noodle jousting. We start at 11:00 A.M. and end at 1:00 P.M.

Please be aware that the Library will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th in observance of Juneteenth. We will re-open on Thursday, June 20th at 10:00 A.M.

Come build a castle using our Legos during our Open Lego Build on Thursday, June 20 between 1:00 P.M.

and 5:00 P.M. We will have the Legos out so that anyone can drop in to try to build a castle or a tall tower or anything your imagination can dream up. No registration necessary, open to all ages.

Join us in the Peterson School House on Monday, June 24 at 11:00 A.M. when Ms. Faith will show us what school was like for children in the Pioneer Era. Children off all ages are invited to come experience how learning was done in schoolhouses across the prairie where our great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents went to school.

Writer's Group will be held on Monday, June 24 at 6:30 P.M. A writer's group is a community of writers who come together to share their work, provide feedback, and support each other in their writing endeavors. It can be a great way to improve your writing skills, get inspiration, and connect with other writers. 

 

Kids in pre-school through 8th grade are invited to try their hand at creating Fire Works Art which can be simple or a little harder on Tuesday, June 25 at 1:00 P.M. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

 

Join us on Tuesday, June 25 at 6:30 P.M. when Anna Goodberlet will give an Essential Oils Workshop, including how to make lotion with these special oils. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included. Space is limited, please sign up early.

Lucky the Library Dragon Visits Limestone Township Library District

It is not often that a dragon comes to visit a library. Some of us would even say it could be tricky considering the fire-breathing aspect.

On Saturday, June 15 at 12:30 P.M., Lucky the Library Dragon is coming in to do a story time session and will listen to each child read a story to our resident dragon. There will be crafts and sensory activities to do while waiting for each child’s turn to read to Lucky. Open to all ages.

When you register, make sure to sign up for any program that fits your child or yourself. We plan to have a busy summer making crafts, visiting with people, exploring nature, and having a Medieval Faire on June 22.

Kids in 2nd through 8th grade are invited to attend a Faerie Garden work shop on Wednesday, June 12 at 1:00 P.M. Using a shallow pan, some succulents, and a few decorative pieces, kids can create their own faerie garden. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

We are having an Herb Garden Presentation on Thursday, June 13 at 6:30 P.M. Teens and Adults are invited to learn more about the common kitchen herbs you might use and how to care for them. Informational handouts along with recipes will be given out.

Friday Take and Make kits will start off the summer with a spacey Slime Kit on Friday, June 14. Pick up a kit with the necessary ingredients and take it home to make at a time good for you. Supplies are limited.

Join us for the Friday Afternoon movie on June 14 at 1:00 P.M. when we go into the future with Wall-E. Anyone can join us for this Pixar classic. Make sure to register ahead of time.

Come for an Adult Craft Night on Monday, June 17 at 6:30 P.M. when we make Mosquito Repellant Jar Candles. Using some fruit, herbs, essential oil inside a mason jar will help keep those nasty insects away and you can see how to make your own. Space is limited so please sign up right away. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

Kids in 2nd through 4th Grades are invited to join us when we make Sun Catchers on Tuesday, June 18 at 1:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. Using canning jar rings and dried flowers, we can create something fun that catches the light. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

Limestone Township Library District Starts Summer Reading with a Movie Kick-Off

Summer Reading is here! At Limestone Township Library District, we are planning an excitement filled summer with our reading program called ‘Where the Adventure Begins.’

Our Kick-Off program is a Movie Day on Saturday, June 8, starting at 12:00 noon. We plan to explore Space this week starting with our movie “Lightyear.” Attendees can have fun making their own rocket to sit in and create their own rocket packs. There will be hotdogs, popcorn, and pop rocks to snack on.  It’s sure to be a blast!

Registration for Summer Reading is ongoing.  Community members can register through June 20. Registration must be done in person. At that time, participants will receive an information packet that includes a reading log, and the program calendar for June and July. Every participant gets a raffle tickle for every on hundred minutes read And for each program that they attend.

When you register, make sure to sign up for any program that fits your child or yourself. We plan to have a busy summer making crafts, visiting with people, exploring nature, and having a Medieval Faire on June 22.

Start your summer off by attending a craft program for kids in Kindergarten through 4th grades on Monday, June 10 at 1:00 P.M.when we make our Passports to Adventure. This cute book utilizes lunch bags to make a pocket collection of the fun things you will find. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

Adult Craft Night comes back on Monday, June 10 at 6:30 P.M. when we make a patriotic wreath using a wire wreath form, mesh, and pipe cleaners. You will love it when you’re done. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

Kids in 2nd grade through 8th grade can sign up for our Moon Rock program on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:00 P.M. when we turn household ingredients into moon rocks and bouncy balls. There is no fee for this program, all supplies are included.

Adult Book Club meets on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30 P.M. when we discuss this month’s selection – The Horsemaster’s Daughter by Susan Wiggs. Copies are available at the Front Desk.
