Celebrates 30 Years of Service

 Help Limestone Township Library District celebrate our 30^th anniversary of serving the community when we host an Open House on Saturday, April 18 from 11:00 A.M. till 1:00 P.M.

During this time, we will host tours of the library to see our various collections and the Peterson Schoolhouse.

Visitors can view the 48 pieces of art in our 30^th Anniversary Art Show created by members of the community, including students at Herscher High School and Hope Christian Academy.

Take in some light refreshments, talk to staff members about their favorite parts of the library, or get a library card if you don’t already have one. Ask us to show you what you can do with your library card!

It is our way of expressing our appreciation to the library community for supporting us these last 30 incredible years.

Stop in at the library starting on April 1^st to see our 30^th Anniversary Art Show! During the month of April, you can stop in to see all the amazing artwork created by members of our community during library hours. These art pieces will be displayed throughout the library until April 30^th.

Looking for something fun outside of the house for your little ones? Come to the library for Open Play every Wednesday between 10:30 A.M. and 12:30 P.M.! There will be different stations for play, along with books for your own private story time.

Calling all yarn enthusiasts! Join us for our Crochet and Knitting Club on Thursday, April 9 from 6-7:30 P.M., where creativity meets community!  Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, come share your passion, learn new techniques, and make new friends in a cozy atmosphere!

Grab your supplies for our next Take-and-Make on April 10 to make your own Cardboard Space Ships in preparation for our Astronomy Night program. Supplies are limited, hurry in before they all fly away.

Come to the library on Monday, April 13^th from 6:00 P.M. till 7:30 P.M. for our Adult Craft Night. We will be creating custom painted stones for your garden or to hide around town! All supplies are provided; there is no fee for this program.

We will host tours of the Library, offer refreshments, and showcase submissions from our 30^th Anniversary Art Show while expressing our appreciation to the library community.

Do you need a fun morning activity? Bring your favorite plushie and join us at the library's gazebo on Monday, April 20^th at 10:30 A.M. for a Morning Storytime! Afterwards, we will have a fun craft fitting with the theme of our book! There is no fee for this program; all supplies are provided.

Join Josiah Fox and the library at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 21^st for The Little Prince Puppet Workshop! First, Josiah will present a puppet show of "The Little Prince." Then we will gather around the craft tables to create our own puppets based on the show. All supplies are provided; there’s no fee for this program. Registration is required.

Come to the library to view the night sky during Astronomy Night on Saturday, April 25th from 7:00 P.M. till 10:00 P.M.! Using special cameras with the Kankakee Area Star Gazers, attendees can view live detailed images of our night sky! Adult supervision required for those aged 16 and under. If there is cloud coverage preventing this event, we will let people know when we can do a Pop-Up Astronomy night.

Decorate a Pumpkin for Limestone Township Library District

 

When we think of October, we think of all the fun decorations we see for Halloween. Skeltons, scarecrows, hay bales, and pumpkins. Pumpkins that have been carved or painted or covered with various craft supplies.

 

The Limestone Township Library District wants to see what you can do to decorate a pumpkin and invites the community to participate in our Pumpkin Decorating Contest!

 

Grab a small pumpkin from the library or use your own. Then bring your decorated pumpkin back to the library by Wednesday, October 22 before we close at 5:00 P.M.

 

All decorated pumpkins will be voted on at our Fall Fest on Saturday, October 25 by people attending Fall Fest! The person who receives the most votes will win a $25 gift card.

 

To help you get ready for decorating, the library will have Take-and-Make pumpkin decorating kits on Friday, October 3 available for pick up, supplies are limited.

E-resources are available on our website that can be used anywhere you are if you have a Limestone Township Library District card.

Visiting younger grandchildren? You can pull up Tumblebooks on your laptop for picture books, songs, and games.

Going on a trip? You can use Boundless or Libby to check out e-audiobooks that you can listen to on your phone through headphones or connect to Bluetooth in your car.

Looking for a new adventure? Check out Explore More Illinois to find discounts at a variety of attractions across Central and Northern Illinois.

Planning a visit to a country that doesn’t speak English? Learn that country’s language with Mango Languages.

You will need a library card and a pin number to access these apps. If you don’t have a card, that can be easily remedied with a current driver’s license and a current copy of a utility bill for those who live in Limestone Township. Calling all kids, ages 6-12, to have fun while turning Soda Bottle into crazy looking squids on Monday, June 16 at 1:00 P.M. You can make it look as realistic or as funky as you want. 

Join us for an Adult Workshop on Monday, June 16 at 5:30 PM! We'll be diving into the world of paper mâché, creating a Wall Shark! Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, it's a great chance to relax, have fun, and meet new friends! Join us on Tuesday, June 17 from 1:00P.M. till 3:00 P.M. for a fun jewelry making session as we create Fish Earrings. This YA Activity time is for Ya and Teen Youth (ages 12-18). Have fun making a funky pair of earrings that no one else has in their collection. 

Join us for an enchanting Story Time event on June 17 at 6:30 PM! This is a splendid opportunity for Pre-K families and children to come together and relish captivating tales. 

The Northern Illinois Anglers Association is coming to the library to present on local sustainable fishing practices on Wednesday, June 18 from 10:30 A.M. till 12:00 Noon. Come and learn how to be a better steward of our fishing grounds.

Our First Take-and-Make for the Summer! Paper Roll Crab! All of the parts are in the kit, but you need to provide the glue and the manpower to make our parts look like a crab! Available starting Wednesday, June 18 while supplies last!

The library needs your help!

We are getting ready for summer reading and need help decorating. There is a basket with four different sea creatures that we are asking our patrons – young and old - to color so that we can put them in our sea of blue in the hallway. Imagine seeing your creation on the wall every time you visit the library.

This year’s Summer Reading Program – Where Wild Wonders Await! will explore different aspects of the outside world every week with fun crafts, presentations, activities, and opportunities to win raffle baskets.

Summer reading is open to people of all ages (including adults!) You do not need a library card to participate. But having one gives you access to all the library’s physical and E-resources.

Summer Reading begins on Saturday, June 14 with a Kick-Off Party. But you can register for summer reading starting on Monday, May 19. To participate in all the Summer Reading programs, including raffle basket tickets, you must be registered for Summer Reading.

Get Crafty at Limestone Township Library District

 

One of the great things about doing crafts with a group of people is that you’re in with a group of people.

You can see what other people are working on, they can see what you are working on. And when someone uses a different technique, then others can ask for an impromptu demonstration.

This is what happens in our Crochet & Knitting Club as well as our Scrapbook/Junk Journal Group. People who are newbies or long-time crafters in these areas get together to work on their projects. Techniques are shared as well as tidbits of where to buy items or some of the best local eateries.

It is a great time to get a project closer to completion and to socialize with others in your hobby interest.

April means tax season. Many of us are working to get all those important papers together in order to file our taxes by April 15.

Limestone Township Library District has limited amounts of State and Federal 1040 tax forms on the carousel in the lobby. If you need other specific forms, we can print them out for you at a cost of .25₡ per sheet for a black and white copy.

We are also celebrating Smart Money Month with a special guest. Join us for Storytime on Thursday, April 10th at 10:30 AM as Joe McNicholas of the Illinois State Treasury Office will share with our younger patrons stories about making smart money moves appropriate for their age! Don't miss this delightful opportunity for learning and fun!

In our county, we hear various stories about our connection to Al Capone. But which ones are true? Where did he have outlets for bootlegging operations? Which clubs belonged to him? Did he have a safe house in the county?

Find out at the next Coffee and Friends program on Friday, March 14 at 10:30 A.M. when Jorie Walters of the Kankakee County Museum presents “Al Capone in Kankakee County.”

Walters is the Research Coordinator at the Museum and comes to us with a plethora of knowledge.

Enjoy a hot drink and a sweet treat while listening to an interesting discussion.

Celebrate the Luck of the Irish on Monday, March 17 when the library hosts a St. Patrick’s Scavenger Hunt and Craft time. From 5:00 till 6:00 P.M. kids in grade school can look for clues from our local leprechaun.

 

Join us for a magical storytime on Tuesday, March 18 at 6:30 P.M. Ms. Heather will read a story that will be followed by a fun and creative craft activity! Let your imagination soar as you listen to enchanting tales and then bring them to life with your own masterpiece. You can even come in your pajamas.
