Learn to Winter Sow at Limestone Township Library District

People have been asking us why we have so many plastic milk jugs in our staff workroom.

These milk jugs are going to serve a specific purpose, especially for those gardeners who are feeling a little antsy to get back into their green spaces.

The Limestone Township Library District can help you get back into the garden when we host a Winter Sow program on Thursday, January 22 at 10:00 A.M. with Holly Froning of the Illinois Extension Office and Master Gardener coordinator. Using the milk jugs in our staff workroom, Froning will show us how to create a seed starting system that can be placed outside once completed.

It’s good messy fun for adults!

There is no fee for this program; all supplies will be provided.

Please be aware that the library will be closed on Monday, January 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will re-open on Tuesday, January 20 at 12:00 P.M.

 

Join us at the library on Tuesday, January 20 at 5:00 P.M. for a cozy evening story time for our Pre-K patrons! We'll read stories in the gazebo and do a fun activity after.

 

Are you getting antsy to putter in the garden? Join Holly Froning, Master Gardener with the Illinois Extension Office on Thursday, January 22 at 10:00 A.M. as she teaches how to start your spring seeds in the winter!

Maybe you have always wanted to try container gardening but never felt comfortable enough to do it. Come to Limestone Township Library District on Wednesday, May 15 at 6:30 P.M. to hear Holly Froning speak on creating a container garden in your own back yard.

Froning is the Master Gardener and Master Naturalist Coordinator at the University of Illinois Extension Office, serving in this role for many years. She will explain the different types of containers, soil mediums, and plants that can work for container gardening. Then you can take that knowledge to work at creating your own container garden.

To attend the program, community members must register for the program. You don’t have to be a patron to attend the program. But as long as you are in the building, check with the Front Desk staff to see about getting a library card.

Storytime takes place every Wednesday at 10:15 A.M., through May 8. Mr. William will read a picture book or two and leading us through a fun craft matching the theme of the book.

 Adult Book Club will meet on Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 P.M. This month we are reading ‘Horse’ by Geraldine Brooks. Copies are available at the Front Desk.

Registration for our Summer Reading Program – Where the Adventure Begins – starts on Monday, May 20. Kids of all ages can sign up to help us retrieve books from Lucky the Library Dragon by reading for as many minutes as possible and attending any number of exciting programs. Minutes read gain participants tickets for our event baskets. Sign up and get ready to have fun!

The Friends of the Library plan to meet on Tuesday, May 28 at 6:30 P.M. They will discuss various ways they can help the library in the Meeting Room. New members are always welcomed.
